The First Global Congress brought together 200 academics, industry, NGOs, and government officials in August 2011 at the American University in Washington DC.

2012

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

The Second Global Congress on Intellectual Property and the Public Interest brought 250 researchers and activists from 40 countries to Rio de Janeiro in December 2012, to promote the development of a “positive agenda” for intellectual property policy in the public interest.

2013

Capetown (South Africa)

The Third Congress was held in Cape Town, South Africa, from December 9 to 13, 2013. More than 250 researchers, activists, and policy makers discussed new work and policy developments around user rights and policy development-focused intellectual property. The event was held in conjunction with the final conference of the OpenAIR project, which brings together researchers on innovation policy in Africa.

2015

Delhi (India)

The fourth edition of the Global Congress 2015 was organized at the National Law School of India University in Delhi from December 15-17, 2015. The Global Congress, the largest ever held in Asia, was jointly organized by the Center for Internet & Society (CIS) in association with National Law University, Delhi, Open AIR, CREATe, Columbia University, and the American University.

2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. (USA)

The American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) convened the Global Congress on Intellectual Property and Public Interest the week of September 24, 2018. The World Congress lasted six days, starting with the capacity-building workshops and training for a selected group of international policy advocates, building a large international public conference with plenary sessions broadcast over the Internet to the world.

2020

Karisma Foundation, Misión Salud, IFARMA Foundation, ISUR center & InternetLab (Colombia-Brazil)

Virtual meeting that replaces the face-to-face version of the GC of 2020.

In this event, proposals and conferences analyzed the relationship between intellectual property and the public interest in the framework of the COVID19 pandemic.
It was organized by the host team from Colombia and Brazil composed of the Karisma Foundation, the IFARMA Foundation, the ISUR Center and Misión Salud (Colombia), and InternetLab (Brazil)
